Apartments around the medical center area in San Antonio
A list of the apartments near the UTHSCSA, along with web information and comments by our graduate students, is provided. Any views or opinions presented in this document are solely those of the students and do not necessarily represent those of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. A letter of salary support will be emailed to you to provide apartments, banks, etc. information on proof of income.
The immunization record must be completed by your physician and submitted by July 19, 2013. Mail this form along with any supporting documentation to the address on the form. This must be done to remove the HOLD on your status and continue with your registration.
To begin your matriculation to the GSBS, there are several new employee and student forms that must be completed before August 1, 2013. Several of the New Employee Forms can be found online and will be discussed during your orientation with the Office of Human Resources. Please note on the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (EEVF), there is a list on page 5 of required documents to complete the form. The dates and schedule for the fall orientation will be sent out by email. If you are visiting the UTHSCSA over the summer, please feel free to stop by the HR office and submit all new employee forms.
The dates and schedule for the fall orientation will be sent by email. If you are currently an employee of UTHSCSA, these forms are already on file with the Office of Human Resources; however, if you would like to continue coverage with BlueCross BlueShield or discuss other benefit options as you transition to a student employee classification, please make an appointment to speak to your HR benefits counselor.
Parking Permits and Student ID Badge
New students can purchase parking permits for Zone 5 only but can request to be placed on a waiting list for other parking areas. For information on parking zones see the UTHSCSA campus map. The cost for parking will be deducted from your monthly salary check. The cost for a student ID badge is $10. A photo ID, for example driver's license or passport, is required by UT Police when purchasing parking and student ID badge.
An email from Student Services has been sent regarding your UTHSCSA email and domain account. If you cannot locate this email, please check your junk folders or spam filters. If you continue to have problems, please contact Piña@uthscsa.edu to request this information again.
Your Health Science Center domain user ID and password are the same as your Health Science Center e-mail user ID and password. If you are not able to successfully sign in to the University Portal contact the IMS Help Desk at IMS-ServiceDesk@uthscsa.edu or 567-7777.
Registration for Fall 2013
The Graduate Dean's Office will email students in the IMGP instructions on how to register for the following courses 1) INTD 5000 Fundamental in Biomedical Sciences and 2) INTD 5008 Laboratory Rotations. Each student is responsible for checking the HOLD status on the account that could delay registration and enrollment. This can be done by accessing the Student Self- Service site.
Tuition/Fees
Tuition and fees will be paid for all first-year IMGP students by the Graduate Dean's Office. If a HOLD remains on a student account that prevents registration and payment of tuition and fees by 4:00pm Friday August 16, 2013, the student will be responsible for paying a $100 late fee.
Student Health Insurance Coverage
The cost for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Academic Health Plans is included in the tuition and fees bill paid for by the Graduate Dean's Office for all first-year IMGP students. If you are a current employee and covered by BCBS or will have private or military coverage, then submit the required information when completing the Health Insurance Form during online registration. Once you have completed this form, the HOLD will be instantly released allowing you to complete registration.
Salary Support
The Graduate Dean's Office will employ students in the IMGP as Graduate Research Assistants and as such, students will receive an annual salary of $26,000. All new employee forms must be on file in the HR office by this time. As a student employee of UTHSCSA and earning a salary, you will be paid on the 1st business day of each month. Students that are put on the payroll by August 1 will receive their first check on September 1, 2013.
All students are required to complete web orientation offered by the Health Science Center's Knowledge Center (KC) learning management system. The instructions will be sent to your UTHSCSA livemail account from the KC. For supervisor notification, add Sophie Piña, in order for me to receive a notice of completion. Failure to complete both modules of the web orientation will result in a HOLD status and will delay the registration process.
International Students
Please contact Dr. Sophie Piña Piña@uthscsa.edu about your arrival date to San Antonio so an appointment and check-in can be scheduled with the Office of International Services.
