New Student Information


It is our pleasure to welcome and assist you with your transition to the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and the city of San Antonio. Below you will find important information regarding your matriculation and enrollment process.

Student Web Orientation

All students are required to complete the web orientation offered by the Health Science Center's Knowledge Center (KC) learning management system. The instructions will be sent to your UTHSCSA LiveMail account from KC.

For supervisor notification, add Nicquet Blake, in order for her to receive a notice of completion. Failure to complete both modules of the web orientation will result in a HOLD status and will delay the registration process.

Account E-mails

An email from Student Services has been sent regarding your UTHSCSA email and domain account. If you cannot locate this email, please check your junk folders or spam filters. If you continue to have problems, please contact to request this information again.

Your Health Science Center domain user ID and password are the same as your Health Science Center e-mail user ID and password. If you are not able to successfully sign in to the University Portal contact the IMS Help Desk at or 567-7777.

Immunization Form

The immunization record must be completed by your physician and submitted by July 17. You can e-mail this form at along with any supporting documentation. This must be submitted in a timely manner in order to remove the HOLD on your record and continue with your registration. For more information, click here.

Any views or opinions presented in this document are solely those of the students and do not necessarily represent those of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. A letter of salary support is available upon request.

Parking Permits and Student ID Badge

New students can purchase parking permits through the UT Police Department. For information on parking zones see the UTHSCSA campus map.

The cost for parking will be deducted from your monthly salary check. The cost for a student ID badge is $10. A photo ID (driver's license or passport) is required by UT Police when purchasing your parking and student ID badge.

Tuition and Fees

If a HOLD remains on a student account that prevents registration and payment of tuition and fees by 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, the student will be responsible for paying a $100 late fee.

Student Health Insurance Coverage

All UT Health students are required to have health insurance. Until you have either chosen to purchase the student option from the University or have proven that you have your own coverage either on your own, through a parent or spouse a hold will remain on your account. Once you have completed this form, the HOLD will be instantly released allowing you to complete registration.

The student health insurance option is available for purchase through the Office of Student Life. Corresponding fees for that coverage can be found on their website here

Student Employee Forms

For those students who are stipend eligible, there is an additional orientation process that must be completed before August 3. New Employee Forms can be found online and will be discussed during your orientation with the Office of Human Resources on the first day of orientation. Please note that on the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (EEVF), there is a list on page 5 of required documents to complete the form.

If you are currently a UT Health San Antonio employee, these forms are already on file with the Office of Human Resources; however, if you would like to continue coverage with BlueCross BlueShield or discuss other benefit options as you transition to a student employee classification, please make an appointment to speak to your HR benefits counselor.

International Students

Please contact the Office of International Services at regarding your offer and F-1 documentation. If you would like to contact the GSBS international club with any questions or if you need help, feel free to email Roma.

Salary Support

The Graduate Dean's Office will employ students in the IBMS program as Graduate Research Assistants and as such, students will receive an annual salary of $30,000. All new employee forms must be submitted and on file at the HR office by this time.

As a student employee of UT Health San Antonio and earning a salary, you will be paid on the 1st business day of each month. Students that are put on the payroll by August 1 will receive their first check on September 1.

Student Lounge and Lockers

The Graduate Student Lounge is located on the bottom floor of the library. If you do not have access to the lounge, please email Lockers are also available in many locations across main campus. Please fill out this form.  

Registration for Fall

The Graduate Dean's Office will email students in the IBMS instructions on how to register for the following courses 1) IBMS 5000 Fundamental in Biomedical Sciences, 2) IBMS 5008 Laboratory Rotations, and 3) ISD 5082 1.5 SCH Responsible Conduct of Research.

Each student is responsible for any HOLD status on the account that could delay registration and enrollment. This can be done by accessing the Student Self-Service site.
