What You Need To Know For The Mikiten Graduate Symposium

Dear Mikiten Attendee,

Thank you for registering to attend the 2016 Mikiten Graduate Research Symposium at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio!

This year's Mikiten Graduate Research Symposium will unite leaders across the UT System for the first ever "Mega Mikiten" on September 10.

The forum organized by the Graduate Student Association promotes excellence in research through mentorship, collaboration, and student interaction.This year's Mikiten will feature a Q& A Session with Co-Founder and CEO of Rackspace Graham and Director of The Rivard Report's Robert Rivard. There will also be poster sessions, career workshops, networking, three minute thesis (3MT) presentations, and multiple winners for cash prizes.

This event is open to all biomedical disciplines. Here is a quick look at our program (including schedule of events and an event map).

Please note that attire for both Friday Networking Event and Saturday Symposium is business casual. Name tags for registered attendees will be provided upon check-in on both Friday and Saturday.

Networking Event 

Friday, Sept. 9

Time: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Location: Main Lobby

Check-in for the Networking Event begins at 8pm in the main lobby of the Marriott Northwest. Name tags will be provided for those who registered to attend. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided. Dress is business casual.

Research and Career Symposium 

Saturday, September 10th

Time: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Location: UTHSCSA - Long Campus

Check-in for the Symposium begins at 8am-9am in foyer of the Academic Learning & Teaching Building (ALTC) on the UTHSCSA campus. Name tags and meeting materials will be provided to those who registered. Breakfast will provided during check-in for registered attendees.

Parking and Transportation:

Shuttle for San Antonio Marriott Northwest guests: Out-of-town attendees staying at the San Antonio Marriott Northwest may use the courtesy shuttle to travel to the UT Health Science Center campus for the Mikiten Symposium and to return to the hotel at the conclusion of the day’s events. Shuttle departure times are as follows:

Saturday morning - to UT Health Science Center: Shuttle departs the Marriott Northwest at 8:00am

Saturday evening – back to Marriott Northwest: Shuttle departs the UT Health Science center at 7:00pm

Parking at the UT Health Science Center is open and free on Saturday. Parking Lots 2 & 6 (shown below) provide parking that is convenient for the Academic Learning & Teaching Center (ALTC) and Holly Auditorium (also shown below), where Mikiten Symposium events will be held.

Special Notes:

Poster mounting: Please mount posters in the foyer of the Holly Auditorium during check-in (8am-9am).

Poster size: While there is no standard requirement for poster size, posters should not be larger than 4 ft. x 6 ft. to ensure they fit on the boards. Cork poster boards with push pins will be provided for poster mounting.

Internet: Visitors to the UT Health Science Center can access guest Wi-Fi through the network HSCguest. Users may select “HSCguest” on wireless devices and access the internet after agreeing to terms of use by opening the internet browser.
