Acting as an advocate for international students and scholars is one of the primary goals of the Office of International Services (OIS). Ultimately, the office acts as a liaison between university administrators and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with U.S. immigration regulations. Additionally, the office supports approximately 500 international students and scholars to ensure their success and well-being on campus.

However, the objectives of the OIS extend beyond the administrative and regulatory duties of international services. In fact, the office strives to coordinate social and educational events that promote multicultural appreciation and highlight the benefits of intercultural exchange. In May, the OIS hosted Passport to Science, a networking event for American and international students as well as faculty members and researchers. The purpose of this event was to serve as a catalyst for international students to establish connections and build support networks.

Presently, the OIS is working to increase the number of events and programs offered to international students and scholars. Moreover, the office is also working to develop stronger ties with international programs, such as the Fulbright Scholars Program, and hopes to update internal processes in regards to J-1 visa sponsorship. More importantly, the office is always striving to improve their service to the international population as well as the campus as a whole. They encourage students and scholars to submit feedback via email to as they work to support the UT Health Science Center.
