The new "Professionalism Series " is a three-part interactive workshop series starting in March. Attendees will engage in discussions of workplace and academic scenarios guided by communication exercises and facilitated training. This series is led by Dr. Teresa Evans, Director of the Office of Workforce and Career Development and includes the insights of invited professionals. Part One: Science of Leadership

Guest Speaker: Paul Ernst, Prior US Army Officer and Current Program Leader at USAA

Attendees will be guided through the qualities of an effective leader as well as gain an understanding for the key causes of leadership failure. After attending this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of what they can do to be a more effective leader as well as have practiced key leadership skills.

Guest Speaker: Beth Eby, Eby Financial and Founder of The Health Cell

This interactive workshop will cover best practices to maximize professionalism in the workplace as well as the effectiveness of personal introductions, elevator pitches and attending networking opportunities. Additionally, the role of verbal and nonverbal cues will be discussed as they pertain to professionalism. Finally, we will showcase tips to communicate persuasively in the workplace.

Success in communicating technical information to a variety of audiences is a skill that requires practice and is essential for leaders in all healthcare and bioscience professions. The best practices to communicate across a variety of media including email, word documents, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and social media will be discussed. Additionally, discussions will include effective communication across a variety of audiences.
