Local Opportunity to Hear Insights from a World-Renowned Scientist, Robert Sapolsky

Author: Teresa Evans, PhD | Category: Career Development | August 21, 2014

As a scientist I have always been passionate about communicating my research to the community. Throughout my graduate training at UTHSCSA, I was lucky to have the opportunity to attend multiple Mind Science Foundation Distinguished Scientist Lectures. These lectures, by world-renowned scientists, are presented to the local community providing a rare opportunity for fellow scientists to see the art of science communication at its best. The Mind Science Foundation is a local treasure. This non-profit organization’s goal is to advance the understanding of consciousness, in part through their Distinguished Speaker Lecture Series.

We are lucky to announce that the next Mind Science Foundation Distinguished Speaker is Robert Sapolsky, Ph.D. For those of whom Dr. Sapolsky is not a household name, I have reached out to one of our UTHSCSA faculty for a brief introduction. Dr.David Morilak, Department of Pharmacology, Director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience has been conducting cutting-edge research in the area of stress and cognition for many years. Dr. Morilak states, “Dr. Sapolsky is one of the most influential scientists in the field of stress research. He has brought an appreciation of neurobiology and of the biological mechanisms that dictate human thought and behavior into the public awareness. But more than that, his work and his ideas have highlighted the relevance of understanding the brain and its relation to human health to a much wider range of human endeavor, including socioeconomics, education, and public policy.”

This is a free event and sure to be an inspirational presentation so please plan to attend!
