Applications are now being accepted from students enrolled in a doctoral program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences for the Translational Science Training (TST) TL1 Program.

The TST TL1 Program provides inter-disciplinary graduate training in Translational Science for students interested in learning how to move their basic research findings more effectively and efficiently into clinical or community research.

Students eligible to apply to the TST TL1 program:

Are enrolled in a doctoral program at UTHSCSA;

Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents;

Have successfully completed their Qualifying Exam (may be pending at application submission);

Have selected a research Supervising Professor; and

Can apply the concepts of translational science to their research project.

Awardees, selected as Translational Science Training Scholars, will work with their Supervising Professor and the TST TL1 Directors to develop individualized programs that will facilitate their capacity to move their science into human or community studies. These individualized programs to include core coursework in translational science and a clinical practicum in the scholar’s field of interest.

Scholars will gain a firsthand appreciation of the relationship of basic science research within the translational science continuum. Additionally, TST Scholars will gain important skills required to work with interdisciplinary teams in the conduct of translational investigations.

The TST TL1 Program is an institutional National Research Service award (NRSA) that is possible through a grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NIH/NCATS). TST awards will include an annual stipend at the NIH-specified level (for FY 2016, $23,376) as well as 60 percent of the cost of tuition and fees.

Please see the TST TL1 website (http://iims.uthscsa.edu/ed_tst_tl1_prog_description.html) for program and application information. There, you will find menus for application guidelines and application forms. Please make sure any form you use is for the current program, “Translational Science Training TL1 Program.”
