If you have been checking you’re emails lately, you may have noticed an email entitled “Gala student dance invitation written by Turner Conrad , the 2014-2015 Presidential Ambassador for The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS). Turner is one of five student presidential ambassadors. Students in this leadership position are responsible for representing their individual school in addition to representing the UT Health Science Center at various school functions.

So keep your eyes peeled for Turner Conrad at this year’s HSC Gala Student Dance. Additionally, for those of you who choose to attend this year’s events here are a few tips from Turner Conrad:

The student dance will be held Saturday, September 13th, 2014, at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio and will begin at 9 pm.

Foremost, RSVP ASAP. That’s a lot of acronyming, but you will want to reserve a spot before being put on the waitlist. There are 400 tickets for the entire UTHSCSA student body and their dates. Last year, around half of those registered showed up, so it is likely you will get through the waitlist if you register early enough.

Second, if you do RSVP only to later find out you cannot make it, cancel ASAP so that a waitlisted individual can get in the door.

Third, dress appropriately. Guys can wear a nice suit or tie or tux and gals can wear a nice evening gown or cocktail dress. Do not be too revealing…leave some mystery.

Fourth, there will be FREE hors d'oeuvres, soda, and water. There will also be a cash bar.

Finally and most important, please please please be safe. We at the HSC would like you to have a fun, not a harmful or fatal evening. If you are going to drink, have a designated driver. Even a single beverage can significantly impair your abilities. Also, ensure that your vehicle is in proper condition for driving and follow traffic laws and posted speed limits.

Special note from the Graduate Dean: In past years, the Dean’s Office has provided round-trip taxi vouchers for our students who travel to/from the Gala. We will continue the tradition and offer taxi vouchers, valued at up to $35 each way. If you are attending the Gala, contact Janice Smith,smithJ@uthscsa.edu, for a voucher.
